Miniscule leaks caused by material defects or errors in the manufacturing process result in significant and costly problems in the industrial production. Adixen’s new ASH 2000 provides a fast and easy way of pinpointing the exact position of leaks as small as 1 · 10-7 mbar · l/s. The ASH 2000 is compact, portable and available in a battery operated version.

The ASH 2000 is an incredibly simple product to use. All that is needed is: the ASH 2000 hydrogen leak detector; a bottle of tracer gas (an inexpensive standard mix of 95% nitrogen and 5% hydrogen); and a device to inject the tracer gas into the product being tested. The ASH 2000 is equipped for both data communication and manual control of inputs and outputs, thereby facilitating automatic leak testing. Using available standards (reference leaks or calibration gas) the ASH 2000 can be easily calibrated to make automatic accept/reject-decisions. The involvement of diluted hydrogen as a tracer gas offers the user: reliable detection, user-friendly technology, low costs and minimal servicing requirements.

The ASH 2000 is suited for a range of applications including:

Automotive applications - benefits of using the ASH 2000 include: simple leak detection without use of fluids; higher sensitivity than pressure decay measurement; a test measurement that is unaffected by temperature variations; automated test method; NIST traceability; and accurate leak size measurements.

Aerospace applications - benefits include: reduced time compared to methods that involve the use of compressed air or soap sprays; a clean and dry test method; exact location of invisible leaks; inexpensive tracer gas; and a complete system for gas injection.

Medical applications - the ASH 2000 is an attracting solution for testing of items such as implants, blood pumps, fluid bags, catheters and other types of consumables. The test method is completely dry and the tracer gas does not affect that material being tested in any way. The ASH 2000 can also provide exact location/position of the detected leak, and is not impacted by elastromeric creep.

Packaging applications - the ASH 2000 offers a completely dry test method that is suitable for flexible or hard packaging materials.

Manufacturing Industry - the ASH 2000 can be used to detect leaks in small and large batches. Plastic containers, hoses, valves and hydraulic components are just some examples of products of that the ASH 2000 could be used to test.

Process applications – the ASH 2000 offers a faster and more reliable method for tightness control and leak detection than bubble testing.

RAC applications – benefits include: inexpensive tracer gas and improved cost-efficiency compared to helium-based leak detection; maintenance-free test equipment; <0.5 g/y equivalent refrigerated sensitivity (<0.1 oz/y); no risk of measurement becoming clogged; and, eliminated cloud hunting, meaning that the risk of the detector being “blinded” by background gas is reduced.

    Rugged Industrial Leak Detection

    Posted by PressReleases - August 16, 2009 10:36

The new Hydrogen Leak Detector H2000 is a unique instrument for industrial leak detection and tightness control.

It is extremely sensitive and can be used to find leaks as small as 5 × 10-7 mbar × l/s, comparable to leaks 1000 times smaller than detectable with a traditional soupy water or bubble tests.

The inherent characteristics of Hydrogen enable fast, precise and safe leak location and qualification. Hydrogen leak detection is done with an extremely safe 5% Hydrogen in 95% Nitrogen gas mix. Because Hydrogen is quickly transported to the leaks and dissipates much faster than other gases it allows for much quicker testing and re-testing than other gases. Hydrogen is also a renewable gas, environmentally sound, certified as food additive and much cheaper than other gases for example Helium.

The Adixen Sensistor H2000 is small, robust and suitable for leak detection in tough factory environments. Leaks in wet objects can be detected when the probe is equipped with a protective cover. Background interference is minimised by the dynamic background compensation, with a useful auto-zero function.

The H2000 is based on modern microelectronics and because there is no expensive vacuum pump technology involved in the detection process the H2000 is virtually maintenance free.

    Portable Helium Leak Detector

    Posted by PressReleases - August 15, 2009 02:17

John Morris Scientific are pleased to introduce Adixen’s new general purpose helium leak detector, the ASM 310.

The ASM 310 can find leaks as small as 5 × 10-12mbar.L/s in vacuum test mode. The unit is semi portable, weighs only 21kg and features an oil-free vacuum system.

The ASM 310 features a colour touch screen with easy parameter settings and has multiple read out and protocol functions such as graphical leak signal and trend indication. The test data is stored onto SD memory cards and can also be recorded by using the free software - ASM View. A vacuum diagram shows you the status of all major components such as vacuum pumps, valves and analyser cell.

The ASM 310 uses a contact-free operating diaphragm pump to back its molecular drag pump. The unique low rotational speed of the included turbo molecular pump makes the unit "bullet proof" against accidental air inrush and allows the leak detector to be moved while testing.

Due to the dry vacuum system and ultra low rotational speed of the turbo molecular pump, the leak detector is practically maintenance free. Adixen ASM 310 has two filaments built into the analyser cell as standard, ensuring uninterrupted operation if a filament breaks. The typical lifetime for our filament is 3 years. Filament replacements can be performed in the field without the need for special tools.

    Helium Leak Detector Workstation

    Posted by PressReleases - August 15, 2009 00:47

The Adixen ASM 1002 Helium Leak Detection Workstation is the perfect solution for leak testing of small to medium sized test objects in a production environment.

The ASM 1002 can find leaks as small as 1x10-9 mbar.l/s. Leak tests can be performed in as little as 4 seconds (single or batch testing) with a standard test chamber (81cc) and without nitrogen purge. The powerful pumping package evacuates the test chamber and allows the unit to perform the leak tests fast and accurately. The ASM 1002 is automated - as soon as the test chamber is closed, the cycle automatically starts.

When the test is finished, the ASM 1002 displays a Pass/Fail result, removing any operator interpretation. In the instance of a good part (Pass/Green light), the test chamber will vent back to atmosphere and will open automatically, optimizing the operator time. For a leaking part, the Fail/Red light will be activated. The test chamber then remains under vacuum and requests the operator’s intervention to vent it back to atmosphere via a button. This removes any misinterpretation from the operator and guarantees the capture of all leaking parts.

The software keeps the unit in test mode for the length of time needed to allow the operator to perform the leak test. The standard test chamber can be easily removed and any custom fixture or test chamber can then be installed to perform testing of varying test objects.

The ASM 1002 is ergonomic allowing the operator to sit comfortably while leak testing parts. This removes the usual burden of standing in front of a leak detector for hours.

A breakthrough in Moisture Control for Freeze Drying

    Posted by PressReleases - August 15, 2009 00:41

John Morris Scientific is pleased to introduce Adixen’s Lyotrack, an online moisture measurement system for freeze dryers.

The Lyotrack is designed to monitor the water vapour concentration under vacuum conditions inside of a freeze dryer.

Previously online monitoring of a freeze-drying process has been done by measuring temperature, pressure and time. With a careful interpretation of these three parameters it is possible to determine the end of the primary and secondary drying phases. Especially for large production freeze dryers, placing the temperature probes and wiring up the connections throughout the freeze dryer is a laborious task. Results can vary wildly from user to user simply through inconsistent placement of the temperature probe with in the chamber or sample.

Unlike temperature measurements with just a few probes spread throughout the freeze drying chamber, The Lyotrack is able to measure the complete load, independent from quantities or the product location within the freeze dryer. Lyotrack uses ICP- OES technology (inductively coupled plasma – optical emission spectroscopy) to directly measure the water vapor inside the freeze-dryer. Not only does it allow an instant measurement of product moisture levels but it also helps in the determination of process parameters such as the end of primary and secondary drying stages.

Installing the Lyotrack is straight forward. Lyotrack uses a flange connection on the freeze dryer which only involves minor modifications if not yet present. The monitoring software runs off any standard Windows PC.

The Lyotrack has a relevant response to Food & Drug Administration recommendations, including the Process and Analytical Technology (PAT) initiative recommending modern process analysis tools and resources for monitoring and controlling processes & process endpoints.
