Laser Particle Sizer With Dynamic Light Scattering!

    Posted by PressReleases - June 10, 2011 21:57

Fritsch have released a new laser particle sizer, the Analysette 12 DynaSizer which uses a dynamic light scattering technique to enable the measurement of particle size distributions between 1 and 6000nm. It also has an extremely wide concentration range of 0.0003 % to 40 wt %.

When measuring particles only small sample volumes of < 50 µl are necessary - these particles are applied directly to the optical measuring cell inside the instrument; therefore making disposables such as cuvettes obsolete.

When measuring the thickness of a sample the strength of the measurement layer can be variably adjusted. This enables the measurement of extremely thin layers and prevents unwanted multi-scattering effects. It also facilitates the measurement of highly concentrated suspensions as well as in opaque media.

The power of the laser can be adjusted to enable the measurement of very dark samples or high particle concentrations of up to 40 wt %.

    Compact Particle Sizer

    Posted by PressReleases - June 3, 2011 00:30

FRITSCH’s new compact ANALYSETTE 22 MicroTec plus Laser Particle Sizer is the economical solution for quality and process control, as well as, research and development applications. With a variable measuring range of 0.08 – 2000µm, the MicroTec plus is typically used to determine the particle size distribution of samples in powder form, solids in suspensions and emulsions.

Despite being small in size, the MicroTec plus offers precision measurement, even with large particles. It achieves this through its use of two lasers (green and infrared) and its detectors which captures 108 measuring channels. The green laser carries out the measurement of small particles, while the infrared laser carries out the measurement of large particles. Both lasers can be aligned quickly, automatically and independently of each other.

The advantage of having two lasers is precise measurement across a range of particle sizes. When switching between small and large particles, the detector and laser source simply move as a unit while the measuring cell remains fixed in place. This is why the unit is able to remain compact in size compared to other laser particle sizers within the same wave length. It also makes calibration easier.

    Key advantages include:

    - Measuring range 0.08 – 2000 µm.
    - Revolutionary dual-laser technology offers precise measurement of a range of particle sizes.
    - Fast, automatic particle size analysis – complete measurements in less than a minute.
    - Practical measuring system that can be quickly and easily connected to various dispersion units for dry or wet measurements.
    - This allows you to buy only what you need for your applications.
    - Small footprint.
    - Fast and simple cleaning.
    - Fully automatic analysis. View results on the screen or in a printed report format.

    Sample Milling

    Posted by PressReleases - August 16, 2009 11:41

Very hard material with a feed size < 100mm can now be reduced in size to an ultimate fineness of 0.1mm in a single operation.

In the past when laboratories prepared large pieces of brittle samples for analysis, they used a jaw crusher such as Fritsch’s Pulverisette 1 for the pre-crushing stage, since the original feed size was too large to be handled by the final grinding mill. Previously samples could not be prepared for analysis in a single operation because a jaw crusher could not achieve adequate product fineness and grinding mills can only handle a limited range of feed size.

Fritsch now offer the Pulverisette 13 - Disk Mill which quickly reduces material to a fineness of  0.1 mm (minimum) even when processing relatively large samples (up to 20 mm edge length). In cases where the required fineness fits this criteria but the original samples include pieces with an edge length over 20 mm, Fritsch GmbH offer the perfect solution:

Combination of the Pulverisette 1 and Pulverisette 13 used together
The Pulverisette 1 - Jaw Crusher is mounted on a metal frame over the Pulverisette 13 - Disk Mill and the two units are connected by a specially designed hopper. This combination enables sample reduction from the jaw crusher's maximum feed size (approximately 100mm) to the disk mill's finest average grain size of approximately 0.1mm in one single operation.

    Mortar Grinder For Process Laboratories

    Posted by PressReleases - August 16, 2009 11:34

Fritsch’s Pulverisette 2 is the essential instrument for processing laboratories. It is suitable for fine grinding inorganic and organic samples for analysis, quality control and material testing.

The Pulverisette 2 is ideal for applications such as:

    • grinding dry samples and solid materials in suspension
    • manufacturing and homogenising pastes and creams to laboratory standards

Whenever reproducible grinding conditions, short grinding times, precise results, loss-free milling and dust-free operation are required, the Pulverisette 2 is the perfect mill. A final fineness of 10µm - 20µm can be achieved from a material feed size of 6mm - 8mm and feed quantity of 30ml - 150ml (depending on material).

Method of operation: The principle involved is similar to a hand mortar, the material to be ground is reduced in size between the pestle and the mortar bowl through pressure and friction.

The mortar is rotated by a drive motor and in turn to drives the mounted, free-rotating pestle by means of friction. Pressure is applied by the pestle on the mortar wall in the horizontal as well as vertical direction. The pressure resulting from the preloaded springs can be adjusted without tools. It can be read off precisely and is therefore absolutely reproducible. A standard integrated scraper turns the sample and guides it back to the pestle.

Specific pestle settings are provided for pre-crushing the samples, during which the pestle works without any direct contact with the base of the mortar. All parameters for this operating mode can also be set so that a reproducible grinding process is guaranteed.

The mortar bowl has a dust-tight seal, which ensures there is no loss of material during grinding. It is also possible to add liquids (eg, nitrogen) directly whilst the process takes place.

    Laboratory Mini Ball Mill

    Posted by PressReleases - August 15, 2009 08:46

John Morris Scientific are pleased to offer Fritsch’s Mini-Mill for the smallest quantities, the Pulverisette 23.

The Mini Mill is ideal for fine comminution of very small quantities (0.2 - 5ml) such as dry laboratory samples or solid suspensions for mixing and homogenisation of emulsions. The Mini Mill accepts a maximum input size of 6mm (depending on the material).

The Mini Mill is ideal for sample preparation of chemical analysis, chromatography, mass spectrometry or X-ray structural analysis. The Pulverisette 23 can also be used for homogenising of active ingredients and milling of pigments or other precious materials.

The large sized DC motor in the Mill converts the rotation to a vertical oscillation using a robust crankshaft drive. This controlled oscillation of the grinding bowl generates a particle size reduction through the impact of a grinding ball as it crushes the sample. The Mini Mill can reach a final particle size of 10µm.
