John Morris Scientific are pleased to introduce Li-Cor's new Greenhouse Gas Analyser (GHG) Packages. The “GHG” provides simultaneous in-situ methane, carbon dioxide, and water vapour data for eddy covariance applications and atmospheric flux monitoring.

Li-Cor have produced two packages, including their proven LI-7500A open path or LI-7200 closed path CO2 and H2O analysers, coupled with the new LI-7700 CH4 analyser, and optional sonic anemometer. These two packages are designed for low power applications in remote areas, and can easily be powered from a solar panel and deep cycle battery.

The “GHG-1” open path package features the Li-Cor open path CO2, and H2O analyser, that does not require any pumps or filters etc.  The closed path “GHG-2” package is suitable for environments with frequent rain, snow or fog, and includes the closed path CO2, and H2O analyser and low power flow module.

Increasing CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere and the resulting consequences for the earth’s climate make understanding the sources and sinks of carbon and their exchange with the atmosphere a high research priority around the world. Soil CO2 flux makes a significant contribution to the total carbon balance and is driven by complex environmental and biological processes that are variable in space and time.

John Morris Scientific are pleased to introduce LI-COR’s LI-8100 Automated Soil CO2 Flux System, providing researchers flux monitoring instrumentation in a dedicated easy to use system. The LI-8100 allows you to make both short term survey and long term unattended measurements of soil CO2 flux. There is a measurement range of 0-3000ppm (CO2) and 0-80 mmol/mol (H2O).

There are two optional short term survey chambers: the 8100-102 (10cm) and 8100-103 (20cm). The 8100-102 chamber allows researchers to fine tune chamber placements more easily. For example in crop rows, more measurements can be performed with the 10cm chamber over the available space within and between the rows, which is helpful when studying CO2 flux across the root zones of various crops.

The 8100-103 chamber is exposed to a larger soil area, enabling better spatial averaging of CO2 flux over heterogeneous soils; also the 20cm chamber uses the same soil collar as the long term chambers.

There are two long term chambers: the 8100-101 and 8100-104, for making unattended diurnal measurements and seasonal soil CO2 flux patterns at a single location for weeks or months at a time. The 8100-101 is designed for use with the LI-8100 in a single chamber, long term system and can also be used for multiplexing with the LI-8150 Multiplexer.

The 8100-104 is an economical, lightweight solution for multiplexer systems. The 8100-104 expands the capabilities of the LI-8100 system and provides an additional chamber option to measure both spatial and temporal variations of soil CO2 flux.

Measuring CO2 flux requires extensive sampling because of spatial heterogeneity of soils and temporal variations in the environmental processes that drive CO2 flux. The LI-8100 Windows® or Interface Software for Palm® OS provides intuitive settings for configuring either single chamber or multiplexed systems to make repeated, automated flux measurements.

John Morris Scientific is pleased to introduce LI-COR’s LI-7500 high speed, high precision Open Path CO2/H2O Infrared Gas Analyser which accurately measures absolute densities of carbon dioxide and water vapour in turbulent air.

In the eddy covariance method, these measurements are used in conjunction with sonic anemometer data to determine fluxes of CO2 and H2O from agricultural or natural landscapes such as forests, grasslands, deserts and oceans for global change and ecological studies.

The LI-7500 Gas Analyser has a sealed sensor head with sapphire optical windows allowing operation in harsh environments at temperatures ranging from to -250°C +500°C. The Light weight sensor head can be mounted in any desired orientation.

The open path measurement eliminates the need for a pump, reducing the overall power requirement of the flux system. This is especially important in remote locations where electrical power supply may be limited. The open path analyser also eliminates time delays, pressure drops and sorption/desorption of water vapour on tubing employed with closed path analysers.

The LI-7500 has simple Windows interface software providing easy setup, calibration and monitoring. The software has a user programmable Delay Time feature to synchronise CO2 and H2O with data from sonic anemometers.

John Morris Scientific are pleased to introduce LI-COR’s single path, dual wavelength, non-dispersive infrared, CO₂ Gas Analyser, the LI-820.

The LI-820 is used for continuous monitoring of CO₂ in a range of environmental conditions including ocean science, plant science, geological monitoring and greenhouse control systems.

The CO₂ measurement is a function of the absorption of infrared energy as it travels through the optical path. The optical path is a thermostatically controlled infrared detection system which provides excellent stability over both time and temperature, extending the required interval between calibrations.

User defined high and low level alarms are available as voltage outputs, allowing you to control CO₂ within a desired range. Relays can trigger devices such as automatic diallers, alarms, pumps and valves in industrial environments.

The LI-820 includes simple Windows interface software for user calibration and data collection. Users can easily set operational parameters and logging options, as well as output data to a printable chart.
