  • Are Your Plants Getting Enough Light?

    Posted by PressReleases - March 1, 2010 18:56

All plants need sunlight to grow and flourish, but the right amount can vary depending on the plant.Traditionally growers have relied on their eyes to determine the correct level, with Spectrum's new Light-Scout DLI 100, growers can accurately monitor the (DLI) over a 24 hour period.

The Light-Scout is quick and easy to use. With the push of a button it runs for up to 24 hours at a time and displays measurements every 10 seconds in light intensity (μmol m-2 or foot-candles) and DLI. The Light-Scout comes in a pack of three and can be positioned throughout your greenhouse, golf course or crops so you can compare the difference in light levels and the effect it is having on plant growth and quality.

The Light-Scout is battery operated and water resistant.

    Integrated Pest Management

    Posted by PressReleases - February 17, 2010 01:53

Spectrum Technologies have released the IPM Scope CAM - an upgraded version of the IPM scope. Previously users had to transfer images and videos to a computer for viewing, now they can view them on a built-in screen before they are transferred.

Fine details of plant disease symptoms, insects or anything else too small to see with the naked eye can be clearly defined with IPM’s versatile 3-25X magnification. Instead of straining to look into a tiny eyepiece, the IPM Scope CAM is placed over the leaf and the magnified image can be viewed on the screen or transferred to a computer via a SD card/USB cable.  Once the image has been transferred to a computer it can be magnified up to 300X.

The IPM Scope CAM combines a digital camera (5.1 mega pixels), precision optics and LED lighting into a powerful handheld microscope.

    Soil Moisture Measurement

    Posted by PressReleases - August 16, 2009 02:35

Spectrum Technologies is proud to introduce the perfect solution for Soil Moisture Measurement. Growers are now able to improve irrigation decisions and eliminate guesswork by making precise soil moisture measurements with the new TDR Series. Based on proven time-domain measurement technology, these portable units accurately measure soil moisture across the full range of soil moisture conditions in regular and high clay soils.

The TDR Series provides two measurement modes. In the volumetric water content mode (VWC), the meter converts a measured electrical signal into percent soil moisture content using an equation valid over a wide range of mineral soils. In Irrigation mode, the meter displays a relative water content (RWC) on a scale of 0 to 100 corresponding to a user-defined upper and lower soil moisture reference level. Water deficit, the amount of water needed to bring the soil moisture content up to the upper reference level, is also calculated and displayed on the clear LCD interface.

The new TDR Series offers researchers, consultants and growers fast and easy to use soil moisture measurement due to its compact design. In addition, the user can choose between different probe rods to suit the desired depth measurement.

    Effective Pesticide Information

    Posted by PressReleases - August 15, 2009 12:38

Spectrum Technologies have released the new WatchDog Sprayer Station for effective management of pesticide application. Now applicators can monitor and data log weather conditions with Spectrum Technologies’ new ultrasonic WatchDog Sprayer Station. Accurate data helps pesticide applicators make important decisions regarding weather conditions that affect safety, drift and proper pesticide application.

This compact all-in-one weather station measures wind speed and direction, air temperature, humidity, dew point, wind chill and barometric pressure. The WatchDog Sprayer Station handles harsh Australian weather conditions with a UV stabilised, compact housing that is completely waterproof and resistant to chemicals. Reliability is enhanced by eliminating moving parts: the traditional wind vane and cups have been replaced with ultrasonic transducers.

With an internal compass and built-in GPS, the WatchDog Sprayer Station will provide highly accurate true wind speed and direction data, as well as vehicle positioning even while the vehicle is moving.

    Georeferenced Soil Compaction Measurement

    Posted by PressReleases - August 15, 2009 12:23

Soil compaction prevents moisture penetration, reduces fertiliser and chemical utilization and hinders plant growth. In some cases, yield losses can run as high as 30% due to soil compaction.

Spectrum Technologies is pleased to announce the new SC-900 Soil Compaction Meter to make better soil management decisions based on field specific data. The SC-900 helps identifying and addressing specific problem areas on-site and in real time.

Soil Compaction meters are used to determine the density of soil and other material. An operator pushes a rod with attached (ASE standard) cone into the ground. The resistance of the cone as it is pushed in the ground is measured and recorded in memory.

Compaction data is recorded and displayed at one inch intervals. The built-in data logger enables you to make georeferenced soil compaction measurements for correlation with yield maps and eliminates the need to record data manually. Included software allows users to download data, change logger settings and configure the meter.

    pH Measurement on the go!

    Posted by PressReleases - August 15, 2009 12:00

Spectrum Technologies are proud to introduce the new IQ 150 Soil pH Meter to ensure consistent plant quality.

The IQ 150 permits instant, accurate measurement of pH in soil media as well as water or nutrient solutions. This portable meter is the perfect instrument for field work, food testing, soil testing, industrial applications and educational use.

The fully redesigned stainless steel probe extends 15.25cm and has a new narrower point which is perfect for small plug trays and causes less root disturbance. A durable ISFET silicon chip sensor eliminates problems associated with glass bulb sensors and accurately measures even a single drop of fluid. Furthermore the improved sensor design allows for sampling on the side and prolongs probe life.

The ultra-rugged meter is armoured in a water-resistant rubber holster and is engineered to withstand a 3 metre drop onto concrete. The probe allows measurements of pH in growing media, without conducting tedious soil sampling and preparation.
